Pronouns: He/Him/His, Él
One of my favorite literary quotes is from the poet and writer Anne Carson: Sometimes a journey makes itself necessary. It brings to my mind so many images: a gentle nudge toward a dream, the idea that pulls you toward achieving a long-held goal that seems far away, or the feeling of being tossed into the storm and knowing you must sink or swim. Everyone has found themselves in the middle of at least one of these experiences. I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve experienced all three. Solutions require hard work and determination, but that doesn’t mean improvement and growth are unachievable.
My journey started figuratively and literally far from here. My roots stretch all the way to South Texas, though I’ve been a Chicagoan for a longer time by now. After 15 years working in different settings and with different populations, I’ve experienced power in vulnerability. I’ve both witnessed—and personally been in—seemingly impossible situations leading toward not only survival, but thriving and empowerment.
My clinical model is based in a relational system where we work collaboratively, while recognizing that each individual deserves an approach that is centered on that person’s unique identity. I work with individuals, people in relationships, and affirm poly/consensual non-monogamy. I work with people who come from Cultural Minority and/or LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with complex and sometimes painful stories to tell. Issues I commonly work with include depression, anxiety, psychological trauma (based either in the home or the community), and communication difficulties. I bring a gentle energy but will push and challenge when I see ability. I believe in an expansive vs reductive manner of recognizing and incorporating the relevant aspects of your identity into the conversation, while not requiring you to draw from my background.

Individual or Relationship Therapy
Individual (one on one) or relationship therapy and counseling. I work with people facing a range of concerns - from the everyday to those that represent more life-changing events or milestones. Ultimately, if it’s something that’s important for you to face and address, it’s my utmost priority in working with you. Sometimes people face multiple concerns concurrently. Sometimes the past intermingles with the present.
Every relationship is unique, both in appearance and in dynamic. This may involve two people and it can also involve any variation of consensual non-monogamy. I approach all with respect and openness - whether it’s working on trust, challenges, working constructively together, or if you have questions regarding life path(s). In every case, I work mindfully to be an impartial facilitator with the aim of improving communication and understanding toward the aim of finding a positive outcome.

Intersectionality
In the modern world we all live in, the different threads that make up our society are interacting and colliding in an accelerated way that may become most apparent in the identity we personally claim.
Personal identity is a nuanced conception and can impact the way we experience the world in potentially positive and at times challenging ways. I believe in the importance of culturally competency, especially in a close and vulnerable relationship between the therapist and the person seeking therapy. I acknowledge the many intersections that impact your lived experience, and strive through a combination of ongoing education, personal engagement, and lived experience to continuously work to authentically witness your reality.

Focus on Physical Health
For some, chronic emotional challenges, such as depression or anxiety, can manifest physical symptoms (e.g. headaches, muscle discomfort, or digestive problems). It is important to acknowledge and address these symptoms just as much as it is to address emotions and thoughts.
For others, the physical health challenges come first, and directly contribute to a decline in one’s sense of wellbeing, quality of life, and mental health. People may also struggle with “invisible” health challenges, where the signs and symptoms of very real health issues go unacknowledged, or worse, invalidated by others. As a clinician, I’m passionate about working with and supporting people who are navigating the complex interplay between physical and emotional health. By acknowledging the intricate web of connections between body and mind, we can work together to develop a personalized approach that addresses the whole person, promotes holistic healing, and fosters a deeper sense of wellbeing and resilience.

Sex Positivity and Kink Inclusive
Sex and intimacy. Two things we can place such an emphasis on, while at the same time find it difficult to discuss openly and safely. In my sessions, I strive to create an environment where human sexuality and intimacy are recognized as a complex and an enriching part of life, that can present in a myriad of expressions, while maintaining a sex-literate and kink-aware mindset.

Terapia en Español
A veces puede que te sientas más cómodo expresando algunas cosas en español, but you’re also comfortable hearing a response in English. Nací en el sur de Texas, donde se nota el español en todas partes y te entenderé sin problema.
I primarily converse in English, because it’s important to use this skill for your benefit, and not as an opportunity to improve my spoken fluency.
